Representative Schuette: Budget must respect, provide value for tax dollars
RELEASE|February 11, 2026

State Representative Bill G. Schuette (R-Midland), today issued the following statement after a budget proposal presentation from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s team for the upcoming fiscal year beginning Oct. 1:

“House Republicans led the way last year pushing for value for tax dollars in the current state budget and making sure we provide financial relief for Michigan workers with no tax on tips, overtime and social security.

“This was a roadmap for state budgets going forward, and we must focus on that again by providing serious and real property tax relief across our entire state and work to improve affordability for Michigan families.

“The governor’s budget proposal is a step in the wrong direction. She is proposing taking hundreds of millions of dollars from the state’s emergency funds and proposing various new taxes. That’s not the budget Michigan families deserve and I’ll fight for a budget that delivers for them.”
