State Rep. Jason Woolford, a Marine veteran, participated in a special 9/11 remembrance ceremony at the Michigan State Capitol alongside Matthew Eichburg, retired brigadier general; David Mester, commander of the Livingston County Veterans Council; and Drew Etten, a fellow Marine and chaplain for American Legion Post 141 in Howell, to honor the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001.

“Sept. 11 is a day we must never forget,” Woolford said. “As a Marine, it was especially meaningful to share this moment with fellow veterans who understand what it means to serve something greater than yourself. I was honored to have Commander Mester, fellow Marine Drew Etten and retired Brigadier General Matthew Eichburgh join me on the House floor as we remembered the innocent Americans we lost, honored the first responders who ran toward danger and recognized the brave men and women who answered the call to defend our country.”

Woolford said the ceremony was an important reminder of the unity Americans showed in the aftermath of the attacks and the responsibility each generation has to carry forward the memory of those who were lost.

“We owe it to those who came before us to remember their sacrifice, honor their service and continue working to make our communities, our state and our country stronger,” Woolford said.
