HB 4013:  Amends the Recreational Trespassing law to require signs to be posted at intervals of not more than 250 feet along the boundary. This will provide a clear, attainable and reasonable standard for both property owners and law enforcement so the recreational trespassing law can be enforced as intended.

Why I voted YES: This legislation will provide a clear, attainable and reasonable standard for both property owners and law enforcement so the recreational trespassing law can be enforced as intended.

HB 4179:  Would amend the Insurance Code to raise the cap on gifts that life insurers or their agents can provide applicants or policyholders.

Sponsor:  Rep. Aragona (R)                       

Passage:  87-17 with Immediate Effect

Why I voted YES: The bill would not force insurers or agents to offer articles of merchandise, or customers or policyholders to accept them.

HB 4081:  Modifies the Land Division Act to allow for an increased number of parcel divisions.

Sponsor:  Rep. DeBoyer (R)                      

Passage:  96-6 with Immediate Effect

Why I voted YES: This gives developers flexibility to split a parcel of land into sizes suitable for residential properties, which could help increase housing supply.

BILL PACKAGE HBs 4157-4158:  Create pilot programs for the state’s summative standardized test.

Why I voted YES: The M-STEP is fundamentally flawed, it does not provide results during the school year to help teachers target students that need additional help.

HB 4156:  Makes changes to the Michigan Merit Curriculum by adjusting the criteria that students must meet to earn a high school diploma.

Sponsor:  Rep. Greene (R)                         

Passage:  57-43 with Immediate Effect

Why I voted YES: The bill allows for more flexibility for students and schools, and further enriches the next generation with core fundamentals that will serve them in whatever career path they choose down the road.

HB 4159:  The model core academic standards for reading are based on the science of reading.

Sponsor:  Rep. Linting (R)                          

Passage:  65-40 with Immediate Effect

Why I voted YES: The state has recently taken steps to improve student screening and teacher preparation for literacy, the same should be done for developing reading and math curriculums.
