Rep. Frisbie Votes to Restore Local Control Over Energy Policies
RELEASE|April 22, 2025

Legislation moves forward to empower Michigan communities

State Rep. Steve Frisbie (R-Battle Creek) and the House Energy Committee today voted to return critical decision-making power on energy issues to local communities. Frisbie, who is a cosponsor of House Bills 4027 and 4028, emphasized that these bills, now heading to the full House, seek to ensure that energy-related decisions are made by local leaders directly accountable to residents.

“Communities should have the right to manage their energy policies and resources without interference from distant, state-level bureaucracy,” said Frisbie. “This vote is an important step toward restoring that authority and respecting the voices of residents and officials who best understand their community’s needs.”

HB 4027 and HB 4028 address longstanding concerns over state-imposed restrictions that have hindered local governments’ ability to effectively manage their own energy initiatives. The bills promote transparency, increase accountability, and enhance responsiveness by placing decision-making back in local hands.

“As someone who has served in local government, I strongly believe the best governance happens closest to the people it impacts,” Frisbie added. “Empowering communities to make their own choices about energy policy will lead to more effective solutions and greater community satisfaction.”

Frisbie urges swift consideration and support from his colleagues when the legislation is brought before the full House.
